Education
Karen Lewis grew up in Midland and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She then obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University. Afterwards, she attended South Texas College of Law, joining the bar in May, 1988.
Professional Experience
Judge Lewis was an associate attorney for Harrell & Solomon in Houston, Texas where she practiced franchise law for 2 years. She then was an associate attorney at the personal injury firm Christie & Adams in Beaumont, Texas for 2 years.
For the next five years, Judge Lewis had her own law office in Beaumont, practicing primarily family law—divorces, modifications and Attorney General hearings. It was in Beaumont that she first went to work for the Office of the Attorney General Child Support Division in 1997. She accepted the position of Managing Attorney of the Midland Child Support Office and returned home in June 1999.
She remained the Managing Attorney of that office until appointed by Judge Dean Rucker to be the Title IV-D Associate Judge, a position left vacant when Judge Matthew Blair retired. Judge Lewis took the bench on October 1, 2015.
